In a South American refinery plant, the double-acting mechanical seals of two API 610 refinery pumps, which are used to pump crude oil, occurred at regular intervals. These not only led to repeated unscheduled maintenance operations, but also to costly production downtimes. A pump monitoring system with integrated mechanical seal monitoring was used to identify and eliminate the causes of failure.
The rotor bearing of a recirculation fan in the exhaust gas treatment of a power plant repeatedly fails. With this one warehouse, the entire line is cancelled. This not only entails repair costs, but also high loss of profit. The maintenance service provider at the power plant installed the BeMoS sensors in the bearing block of the affected warehouse and connected the mobile BeMoS measurement kit with evaluation unit and data memory.
The findings from the measurement data collected over months were successfully incorporated into the development of countermeasures.


The blanching conditions are particularly critical for the seal, as the pumping medium is pumped close to the boiling point and this often leads to evaporation in the sealing gap. In addition, there is also contamination from the field. It is therefore often the case that the life of the seal is shortened. For the seasonal production of vegetables, it is important to know how the plant is doing and whether it is necessary to replace the seal.
