Repairs
METAX repairs mechanical seals, rotary joints and wave lip sealing systems of various designs and manufacturers. After the damage analysis and cost calculation, you decide whether you want reconditioning or a new component.
Damage analysis
- Condition of the sliding surfaces: Uniformity of the structure, run-in marks, cracks, bursts, cutouts at the edges, chemical attack of the material
- State of secondary seals: Elasticity, abrasion marks, cracking, chemical attack of the material
- Torque carrying condition: Abrasion marks, mobility, cracking or fractures
- General condition: Abrasion marks on sealing surfaces for secondary seals, chemical attack of the materials
Doing the repair
- Clean all reusable parts
- Polish all sealing surfaces for secondary seals
- Re-wash the sliding surfaces or replace them with new parts
- Replacement with new parts: All secondary seals, elastomer bellows, springs (for small dimensions), other parts as required
General notes
METAX repairs mechanical seals of all types and manufacturers. A compilation drawing should be included with complete cartridge seals.
For a complete damage analysis, all operating parameters should be available. For mechanical seals of smaller dimensions, repair is often not cost-effective compared to delivering a new part. By comparing our cost estimate for repair costs with an offer for a replacement seal, you can decide transparently whether your seal should be repaired again and go into operation or whether you want to use a new component.
Repairs are only possible if all parts of the seal are available. Chemical neutralization, if required, must be carried out before shipping. Care must be taken to ensure careful packaging when shipping. In particular, the sliding surfaces must be protected against impact loads.
